Ontario igaming market sees uptick to $6bn in Q2 wagering

Ontario’s igaming market performance results for the second-quarter has been released by iGaming Ontario, publishing an increase of almost C$2bn on Q1’s total wagers figures.

IGO declared total wagers of $6.04bn for the period ending September 30, an increase on Q1’s $4.07bn without promotional wagers factored in.

The region’s regulator reported $267m in total gaming revenue for operators during the quarter, a sizable increase on Q1’s $162m.

Active player accounts are also up on the previous quarter, reaching 628,000 with an average spend of $142 compared to 492,000 and a $113 average.

Total revenue is represented by total cash wagers, which includes tournament, rake and other fees from 24 operators and 42 gaming websites (Q1: 18 operators, 31 websites).

However, it is important to note that this report does not include any figures from OLG’s offering, which includes igaming and sports betting for both retail and online.

For now, iGO is deciding against offering a breakdown of these quarterly figures per operator or vertical.

The regulator will continue to release updates on the market on a quarterly basis at a minimum for the time being.

Earlier this month,The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario set an October 31, 2022, deadline for operators and suppliers to end activities in the unregulated market and avoid jeopardising eligibility for registration.
